What is Support At Home?
Support at Home is a new Australian Government aged care program that helps older people stay living independently in their own homes for longer. It replaces the previous Home Care Packages (HCP) and Short-Term Restorative Care (STRC) programs. The change aims to make aged care at home simpler, fairer, and more flexible.
What it means for me?
From 1st November 2025, your care and funding will be managed under a new, streamlined structure. How this affects you depends on when your Home Care Package was approved, you will either be considered a grandfathered or a hybrid client.
Grandfathered clients
If you already have a Home Care Package, or were approved for one before 12 September 2024, you are considered a grandfathered client. You will automatically move into the Support at Home program on 1 November 2025 under a “no worse off” guarantee, meaning your existing fees and contribution rates will stay the same, and your services will continue without disruption.
Hybrid clients
If you were approved for a Home Care Package after 12 September 2024 but before the new system begins, you are a hybrid client. Your care will continue under Support at Home, but your fees and contributions will be adjusted to align with the new funding model. Your Case Manager will guide you through what this means for your personal circumstances and ensure a smooth transition when the program starts.
